Couture 7 - Valentino

VALENTINO

For all those of you who are anxiously awaiting my Emmy Awards report for the ceremony last Sunday evening, you won't have to wait much longer !!

I will be doing a rather shortened version this time - we returned from our holiday across the pond on Friday morning, after an overnight flight from Toronto, and therefore I have only just been able to get at photos from this event yesterday...so I will be selecting my top ten to fifteen Best and Worst combined list today, and will try and get this posted up later this afternoon, or maybe tomorrow...
I did get to see the ceremony live on Canadian TV which was a novel experience for me, as we only get the live transmissions of these Hollywood events at around 3am in the UK usually...and much as I love this journal, there are better things to get up to at 3am in my view - like sleeping !!

In the meantime, I have had this little post on the back-burner for a while now...it's been sitting here in photos-only fashion, in 'Private view' mode for about three weeks, little did you all know - all it needed was the text added !!

This is the final Couture report from the Autumn 2010 Collections, from the esteemed House of Valentino...

The two designers for Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paulo Piccioli really are trying to pitch this label at a whole new generation of much younger clients, especially at Couture time, and this time they have succeeded very well, in my view..this whole collection was picking up on varioius trends for a slightly Sixties baby-doll look, combined with a very lady-like approach to party dressing for the 'Twilight' crowd...lots of black combined with white and baby pink with intervals of bright red made for a much trendier Valentino Collection than we have been used to - and no bad thing either !! Beautiful though the traditional Valentino designs are, they do need updating and revamping once in a while, and these two are proving to be the best people for the job...

I have picked out my favourites from this collection, and also the ones that I think are most likely to turn up on the red carpets soon...this first dress really struck me as a red carpet possible, although we don't often see anyone brave enough to do the bubble dress thing ! I love this for the choice oif interesting fabric surface treatment, and the black and white with a touch of pink colour combination...

Also the accessories are very eye-catching, with two innovations being most notable - the feathery shoes with tiny kitten heels, and the leather gloves adorned with bows, in either full arm-length or a tiny half hand size which is new and quite novel.
Here are the shoes, which are very elegant, but still innovative, with long spidery feathers spraying out from behind the black bows adorning the fronts...

Quite a few of these dresses I could see someone like Chloe Sevigny wearing, and a few other celebrities too...I liked this black dress with its square neckline and large black bow at the waist - all very sixties...

This lace pattern mini-dress was both very new for Valentino, but a very sixties shape at the same time - and very sophisticated for the young crowd that they were trying to attract. I can see this being chosen for one of the many music awards shows that will be fast approaching this Autumn - generally the rule seems to be full length couture for the film awards and very short mini-length cocktail dresses for the music awards...

Another dress for the music awards show coming up - this would be fantastic on someone like Carrie Underwood, who always seems to go for the palest pastel, cream or white options...it's beautiful and again, very Sixties in feel.

The red dresses were few and far between, but they stood out as a result...

There were two or three cocktail length dresses and a full length gown, all of which I could see on Our Chloe...especially the one below, with the sheer turtle neck and sleeves style bodice - that's so very her isn't it ?!!
